Sonobuoy

AN/SSQ-53G

The SSQ‑53G DIFAR combines passive directional sensing with calibrated wide‑band omni performance in a single multi‑function buoy. Its GPS capability runs through Command Function Select and stays off at splash, so location reporting is available when the mission calls for it and silent when it does not.

Four modes, adjusted in the water

Electronic Function Select handles pre‑launch setup and Command Function Select handles in‑water adjustment, giving control of sensor mode, buoy life, depth, AGC level, and RF channel. The buoy amplifies underwater acoustics and provides directional data to establish bearing to the energy source.
