Sonobuoy

AN/SSQ-53G (GPS)

The SSQ‑53G (GPS) DIFAR combines passive directional sensing with calibrated wide‑band omni performance in a single multi‑function buoy. GPS reporting activates on deployment rather than on command, which makes this the recommended DIFAR sonobuoy for international customers who need location reporting from the start.

Four acoustic modes, NMEA out

CSO sits at 45 ft (13.7 m), with Calibrated Omni and XCO co‑located with the DIFAR sensor at selectable depths. Electronic Function Select handles pre‑launch setup and Command Function Select handles in‑water adjustment of sensor mode, buoy life, depth, AGC level, and RF channel. The buoy transmits NMEA RMC, GSV, GGA, and GSA messages.
