The SSQ‑62E is a fifth‑generation, NATO A‑size sonobuoy built around an all‑digital Directional Command Active Sonobuoy System. It is used to detect and localize submarines, delivering precise range and bearing for accurate target fixing.
Unlike earlier variants, the SSQ‑62E supports all four acoustic frequencies through Electronic Function Select, and Command Function Select lets operators modify operating modes after deployment. It is air‑launchable from fixed‑ or rotary‑wing aircraft and can also be deployed from surface vessels, with a parachute‑stabilized descent that puts it in the water ready to work.
