The SSQ‑62F is a sixth‑generation Directional Command Active Sonobuoy System in a NATO A‑size buoy, used to detect and localize submarines. It provides both range and bearing to the target for accurate position fixing.
Like the SSQ‑62E, the 62F supports any of the four acoustic frequencies selected through Electronic Function Select, and Command Function Select lets the operator change the buoy’s mode of operation after it has been deployed. Added GPS location capability transmits the messages requested by CFS on a subcarrier.
